Does this online car buyer serve your state? Coverage for Carvana, Wheelzy, WhipFlip and more

All 50 states, 45 states, the contiguous US, 86 branches or five states: what each car-buying site says about where it actually operates, and what to check first.

Every car-buying site has a form that accepts any ZIP code. That is not the same as buying cars there. Some services state all 50 states in plain words, some say nationwide and then qualify it, several only reach as far as their nearest store or partner dealer, and one covers five states. Below is what each site in our verified comparison says about its own coverage, next to the handover method, because the two are tied: a buyer that needs you to drive in is only as national as its store map.

Coverage, as each site states it

Nationwide, with a footnote

The junk and damaged-car specialists make the broadest claims, and because they tow, the claim is not tied to a building. Wheelzy states all 50 states and Cash Auto Salvage states 50 states plus DC. Cash for Junk Cars Online, now operating as junkcarmedics.com, says 45 states, so five are out and its page is the place to check which. CarBrain says nationwide but specifies the contiguous states, which by definition leaves out Alaska and Hawaii; CarBuyerUSA says continental US and does not define the phrase further. DamagedCars.com, CashForCars.com and GiveMeTheVin say nationwide without a state count. Nationwide here means a partner network: CarBrain and DamagedCars.com collect through partners, and GiveMeTheVin drop-offs go to affiliate dealerships that re-inspect the car on arrival.

Coverage that depends on a store near you

For the mainstream retailers, the real coverage map is the store map. EchoPark and AutoNation redeem the online offer in store, so the offer only helps if a location is within driving distance. webuyanycar.com lists 86 US branches plus a mobile buying service whose availability varies by area. Kelley Blue Book Instant Cash Offer is redeemed at a participating dealer, and KBB itself does not pick up or pay; the instant offer on Cars.com comes from a local dealer. CarMax starts with a state-by-state selector, and its at-home pickup is not available in all locations, with distance restrictions and a fee that may apply. Carvana takes cars at its hubs and vending machines for free, but driveway pickup is for customers in specific locations and carries an additional service charge.

WhipFlip is the outlier. Its stated territory is Pennsylvania, Ohio, Delaware, New Jersey and part of Minnesota, and out-of-area sellers must meet inside those coverage zones. In exchange a rep comes to you and pays on the spot before the keys transfer, with immediate lienholder payoff. Peddle sits in between: its pages reference multiple city markets and free pickup at your location, but carry no explicit nationwide coverage statement.

Where your state changes the deal itself

Coverage is one question; what the buyer can do once it arrives often turns on state paperwork. Wheelzy says selling without a title is possible in many states and evaluated case by case. Cash Auto Salvage buys with or without a title but notes that title requirements vary by state. webuyanycar.com warns that additional fees such as titling may apply. Two sellers in different states can get different answers from the same site for reasons unrelated to the car.

  • Does the site name a state count, or just say nationwide? A count is a commitment you can check against your own address.
  • Is handover a tow, a mobile visit or a store? For store-based buyers, find the nearest location before you value the car.
  • If pickup is listed, is it free everywhere or only in specific locations, as Carvana and CarMax state?
  • If you lack a title or have a lien, does the site say the outcome depends on your state?
The quickest filter is the handover column above. If you want the car collected wherever you are, the tow-based buyers make the widest stated claims. If you are near a store, the retailers pay the same day but only inside their footprint. Every coverage statement here is as recorded on the verification date shown on each card in our comparison: Best Ways to Sell Your Car Online.
